The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has provided an explanation for the upcoming friendly match with Mexico.
The Black Stars will play Mexico in an international friendly on October 14 after a deal was finalized, the football organization said on Tuesday, July 18.
“As part of the 20th anniversary of the MexTour, the Ghana Football Association has inked a contract with the Federación Mexicana de Ftbol (FMF) and Soccer United Marketing (SUM) for a friendly international match against the 2023 Concacaf Gold Cup champions Mexico in the United States.
Parts of the GFA statement stated that “This fixture kicks off on Saturday, October 14, 2023, at a venue yet to be announced.”
The Ghana FA went on to say that the international exhibition game against Mexico is “part of Ghana’s preparations for important competitions such as the FIFA World Cup qualifiers in November and the Africa Cup of Nations in January next year.”
The Black Stars of Ghana must defeat the Central African Republic in September in order to qualify for the 2023 AFCON.
Ghana is in Group I with Mali, Chad, Comoros, Madagascar, and the Central African Republic in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying round.
