Raphael Agbele, a 42-year-old driver, and Daniel Sakyi, a 26-year-old student, have been remanded into police custody by the Jasikan Circuit Court for trafficking 410 packages of illegal substances that were allegedly made from Indian hemp.
To the charge, they both entered a not-guilty plea.
The suspects’ next court date is July 25, 2023, and the case has been postponed.
The prosecutor, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Seth Vincent Kpodo, informed the Alfred Kwabena Asiedu-presiding court that the complainant was an Assemblyman.
Agbele was in command of a Benz bus container with the registration number GT 8496-N, he claimed, and it was traveling from Hohoe to Dormabin on May 24, 2023.
Sakyi, who was also a passenger in the car, was the driver’s passenger, according to ASP Kpodo.
He claimed that the car drove off the road and was engaged in an accident when it reached the Asukawkaw Bridge.
According to ASP Kpodo, the complainant raced to the scene after learning about the accident and discovered that there were sacks inside a hidden compartment in the Benz bus that had broken down as a result of the collision.
He claimed that several of the aforementioned sacks were also observed strewn across the road, which the assemblyman hurriedly packed to keep thieves away.
The Assemblyman subsequently told the Police about the event, according to ASP Kpodo.
He claimed that when the police arrived on the scene, they discovered 12 sacks and 10 bundles of Indian hemp that had been taken from the wrecked car.
According to ASP Kpodo, police went to the Asukawkaw Clinic and detained the suspects who had received treatment for the accident-related injuries and been released.

In their investigative caution statements to police, the suspects, according to ASP Kpodo, denied any wrongdoing. The suspects named one Selasie Zigah of Hohoe as the owner of the car who directed them to load charcoal at Dormabin and was unaware of the content of the vehicle.
He claimed that efforts were being taken to have the alleged owner of the car, who had since disappeared, detained so that an investigation could be conducted.
