Three fuel tankers were partially burned in a fire that broke out at the Tema tank yard in the Greater Accra Region’s Kpone Katamanso Municipality’s industrial district.
The fire, whose cause has not yet been determined, happened on Friday.
According to reports, one of the cars, a 54,000-liter tanker, had petrol inside at the time of the accident.
In an interview with TV3 in Accra, D03 Ebenezer Yenzu, the Tema Regional Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), described the incident.
He told how the contents of the car were saved by the firefighters.
“Our personnel from the Industrial Area station arrived at the scene at 3:47 after we received the report around 3:35. They requested assistance, therefore we sent out a team from Tema Metro, the fire department from Tema Oil Refinery, and a tanker, he explained.
The firefighters were praised for their good work by DO3 Yenzu, who also noted that their prompt action prevented what might have caused an explosion in the yard.
