After being named to the final squad for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, Asante Kotoko attacker Steven Desse Mukwala has backed Richmond Lamptey to excel for the Black Stars.
The 26-year-old central midfielder was named to the Black Stars’ 27-man squad list on Monday morning by head coach Chris Hughton.
Richmond Lamptey is one of three locals to make the final 27-man squad for the continental tournament.
“Any national team call-up is a privilege for us as players.” Representing your country is a great honor and privilege. I believe that his quality and experience will benefit the team (Kotoko) and that he will perform admirably. The entire fabulous family will simply pray for him. We simply want the best for him. “I’m confident he’ll deliver,” Steven Mukwala said.
Ghana has already set up camp in Kumasi and will play Namibia in a friendly match on January 8, 2024, before departing for Abidjan two days later.
The Black Stars have been placed in Group B with Egypt, Cape Verde, and Mozambique, all seven-time champions.
